※ Julius Robert Oppenheimer (1904~1967, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._Robert_Oppenheimer ) ; an American theoretical physicist who served as the director of the Manhattan Project's Los Alamos Laboratory during World War II.

He is often called the "father of the atomic bomb" for his role in overseeing the development of the first nuclear weapons.

Oppenheimer made significant contributions to physics in the fields of quantum mechanics and nuclear physics, including the Born–Oppenheimer approximation for molecular wave functions; work on the theory of positronsquantum electrodynamics, and quantum field theory; and the Oppenheimer–Phillips process in nuclear fusion

With his students, he also made major contributions to astrophysics, including the theory of cosmic ray showers, and the theory of neutron stars and black holes.

His leadership and scientific expertise were instrumental in the project's success, and on July 16, 1945, he was present at the first test of the atomic bomb, Trinity

In August, the weapons were used on Japan in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, to date the only uses of nuclear weapons in conflict.

What did people truly want to say to the world?

I want to convey the true heart of the person published here.

With this mindset, I hope to properly express Julius Robert Oppenheimer's heart.

1. Genius sees the answer before the question.

2. Truth, not a pet, is man's best friend.

3. The people of this world must unite or they will perish.

4. Science is not everything, but science is very beautiful.

5. When you see something that is technically sweet you go ahead and do it.

6. The optimist thinks that this is the best of all possible worlds.

The pessimist fears it is true.

7. There are no secrets about the world of nature.

There are secrets about the thoughts and intentions of men.

8. The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance ; the wise grows it under his feet.

9. Discovery follows discovery, each both raising and answering questions, each ending a long search, and each providing the new instruments for a new search.

10. As long as men are free to ask what they must, free to say what they think, free to think what they will, freedom can never be lost and science can never regress.

11. In some sort of crude sense, which no vulgarity, no humor, no overstatement can quite extinguish, the physicists have known sin ; and this is a knowledge which they cannot lose.

12. If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky that would be like the splendour of the Mighty One…

I am become Death, the Shatterer of Worlds.(Quoting ‘The Bhagabad Gita’)

13. When you see something that is technically sweet, you go ahead and do it and you argue about what to do about it only after you have had your technical success.

That is the way it was with the atomic bomb.

14. There must be no barriers for freedom of inquiry...

There is no place for dogma in science.

The scientist is free, and must be free to ask any question, to doubt any assertion, to seek for any evidence, to correct any errors.

15. It is proper to the role of the scientist that he not merely find new truth and communicate it to his fellows, but that he teach, that he try to bring the most honest and intelligible account of new knowledge to all who will try to learn.

16. It is not possible to be a scientist unless you believe that it is good to learn... that it is of the highest value to share your knowledge... with anyone who is interested... that the knowledge of the world, and the power which this gives, is a thing which is of intrinsic value to humanity.

17. Both the man of science and the man of art live always at the edge of mystery, surrounded by it.

Both, as a measure of their creation, have always had to do with the harmonization of what is new with what is familiar, with the balance between novelty and synthesis, with the struggle to make partial order in total chaos....

This cannot be an easy life.

18. This world of ours is a new world, in which the unit of knowledge, the nature of human communities, the order of society, the order of ideas, the very notions of society and culture have changed, and will not return to what they have been in the past.

What is new is new, not because it has never been there before, but because it has changed in quality.

19. Bertrand Russell had given a talk on the then new quantum mechanics, of whose wonders he was most appreciative.

He spoke hard and earnestly in the New Lecture Hall.

And when he was done, Professor Whitehead, who presided, thanked him for his efforts, and not least for 'leaving the vast darkness of the subject unobscured'.

20. [About the great synthesis of atomic physics in the 1920s:]

It was a heroic time.

It was not the doing of any one man; it involved the collaboration of scores of scientists from many different lands.

But from the first to last the deeply creative, subtle and critical spirit of Niels Bohr guided, restrained, deepened and finally transmuted the enterprise.

What did people truly want to say to the world?

I want to convey the true heart of the person published here.

With this mindset, I hope to properly express Henri Poincaré's heart.

1. Good preparations make a success.

2. Mathematics is the art of giving the same name to different things.

3. The thought is only a flash between two long nights, but this is everything.

4. The scientist does not study nature because it is useful, he studies it because he delights in it, and he delights in it because it is beautiful.

5. If nature were not beautiful, it would not be worth knowing, and if nature were not worth knowing, life would not be worth living.

6. Science is facts. Just as houses are made of stones, so science is made of facts.

But a piece of stones is not a house and a collection of facts is not necessarily science.

7. A scientist worthy of his name, about all a mathematician, experiences on his work the same impression as an artist ; his pleasure is as great and of the same nature.

8. Mathematical discoveries, small or great are never born of spontaneous generation.

They always presuppose a soil seeded with preliminary knowledge and well prepared by labor, both conscious and subconscious.

9. What is it indeed that gives us the feeling of elegance in a solution, in a demonstration?

It is the harmony of the diverse parts, their symmetry, their happy balance ; in a world it is all that introduces order, all that gives unity, that permits us to see clearly and to comprehend at once both the ensemble and the details.

10. Mathematicians do not study objects, but relations between objects.

Thus, they are free to replace some objects by others so long as the relations remain unchanged.

Content to them is irrelevant : they are interested in form only.

※ Michael Faraday FRS (1791~1867, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Faraday ) ; an English chemist and physicist who contributed to the study of electrochemistry and electromagnetism.

His main discoveries include the principles underlying electromagnetic inductiondiamagnetism, and electrolysis.

It was by his research on the magnetic field around a conductor carrying a direct current that Faraday established the concept of the electromagnetic field in physics.

Faraday also established that magnetism could affect rays of light and that there was an underlying relationship between the two phenomena.

He similarly discovered the principles of electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism, and the laws of electrolysis

His inventions of electromagnetic rotary devices formed the foundation of electric motor technology, and it was largely due to his efforts that electricity became practical for use in technology. The SI unit of capacitance, the farad, is named after him.

As a chemist, Faraday discovered benzene and carbon tetrachloride, investigated the clathrate hydrate of chlorine, invented an early form of the Bunsen burner and the system of oxidation numbers, and popularised terminology such as "anode", "cathode", "electrode" and "ion".

Physicist and mathematician James Clerk Maxwell( https://cw2588.blogspot.com/2022/11/james-clerk-maxwell-sayings-quotes.html ) took the work of Faraday and others and summarised it in a set of equations which is accepted as the basis of all modern theories of electromagnetic phenomena.

Albert Einsteinhttps://cw2588.blogspot.com/2022/11/albert-einstein-sayings-quotes.html ) kept a portrait of Faraday on his study wall, alongside those of Isaac Newton( https://cw2588.blogspot.com/2022/11/sir-isaac-newton-sayings-quotes.html ) and James Clerk Maxwell.

What did people truly want to say to the world?

I want to convey the true heart of the person published here.

With this mindset, I hope to properly express Michael Faraday's heart.

1. No matter what you look at, if you look at it closely enough, you are involved in the entire universe.

2. Nature is our kindest friend and best critic in experimental science if we only allow her intimations to fall unbiased on our minds.

3. The five essential entrepreneurial skills for success are concentration, discrimination, organization, innovation and communication.

4. The lecturer should give the audience full reason to believe that all his powers have been exerted for their pleasure and instruction.

5. Nothing is too wonderful to be true if it be consistent with the laws of nature, and in such things as these, experiment is the best test of such consistency.

6. He smells the truth!
