Both a journalist and a broadcaster, he became well known to millions through his television lectures.

What did people truly want to say to the world?
I want to convey the true heart of the person published here.
With this mindset, I hope to properly express Alan John Percivale Taylor's heart.
1. History is the great propagator of doubt.
역사는 의심의 위대한 전파자이다.
2. History is not a catalogue but... a convincing version of events.
역사는 카탈로그가 아니라... 사건의 설득력 있는 버전이다.
3. Freedom does not always win.
This is one of the bitterest lessons of history.
자유가 항상 이기는 것은 아니며,
이것이 역사상 가장 쓰라린 교훈 중 하나이다.
4. No matter what political reasons are given for war, the underlying reason is always economic.
전쟁이 일어나는 정치적인 이유가 무엇이든 그 근본적인 이유는 항상 경제적인 문제이다.
5. History is not another name for the past, as many people imply. It is the name for stories about the past.

6. Knowledge breeds doubt, not certainty,
and the more we know the more uncertain we become.

9. In my opinion we learn nothing from history except the infinite variety of men's behaviour.
We study it, as we listen to music or read poetry, for pleasure, not for instruction.
내 생각에 우리는 인간 행동의 무한한 다양성을 제외하고는 역사에서 아무것도 배울 수 없다.
우리가 음악을 듣고 시를 읊조리는 것은 지식과 교육문제이기 이전에 즐겁게 살기 위해서이다.
10. Conformity may give you a quiet life ; it may even bring you to a University Chair.
But all change in history, all advance, comes from the nonconformists.
If there had been no trouble-makers, no Dissenters, we should still be living in caves.
순응을 잘하면 조용한 삶을 살아갈 수 있으며,
순응이 당신을 대학 총장까지 만들어줄 수도 있다.
그러나 역사의 모든 변화와 발전은 비순응자들로부터 왔다.
말썽꾸러기나 반대자들이 없었더라면 우리는 여전히 원시 동굴에서 살아 왔을지도 모를 일이다.
