※ Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman FRS(1888~1970, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C._V._Raman ) ; 빛의 산란(광산란 光散亂 light scattering) 분야의 권위자인 20세기 인도의 물리학자이다.

그가 개척한 연구 분야는 진동 · 음향 · 빛의 회절(光回折 diffraction of light), 콜로이드에 의한 빛의 분산, X선 회절, 결정의 자성(磁性) · 유전체(誘電體) · 초음파(超音波) 등 다방면이다.

이 중 1922년의 논문 [빛의 분자에 의한 회절]로 시작되는 일련의 연구는 ‘라만 효과(Raman 效果 Raman scattering)’의 발견(1928)으로 이어졌고, 양자론(量子論)의 실험적 증명으로 인정받아 1930년 노벨물리학상(Nobel Prize in Physics)을 받았다.
