궁궐 안에서 차단된 생활을 하므로 백성들 사이에서 일어나는 일들에 대해 과인이 다 알기가 어렵다.

백성을 수고롭게 하는 일이 있다면 반드시 과인에게 보고해야 한다.

8. Although those of superior ranks are wiser than their subordinates and should be able to make the right decisions, the subordinates must not hesitate to correct their superiors, if they feel with certainty that the latter’s decisions are wrong.

윗사람이 아랫사람보다 현명하여 올바른 결정을 내릴 수 있어야 하지만, 아랫사람이 윗사람의 결정이 잘못되었다고 확신하면 주저(躊躇)하지 말고 윗사람에게 간(諫)하여 바로잡아 주어야 한다.
