What did people truly want to say to the world?
I want to convey the true heart of the person published here.
With this mindset, I hope to properly express Golda Meir's heart.
1. Zionism and pessimism are not compatible.
시오니즘과 비관주의는 양립할 수 없다.
2. You'll never find a better sparring partner than adversity.
역경(逆境)보다 더 나은 스파링 파트너를 찾을 수 없다.
3. Those who don't know how to weep with their whole heart, don't know how to laugh either.
온 마음으로 우는 법을 모르는 사람은 웃는 법도 모른다.
4. One cannot and must not try to erase the past merely because it does not fit the present.
단지 현재에 맞지 않는다는 이유만으로 과거를 지울 수도 없고, 지워서도 안 된다.
5. The only way to eliminate war is to love our children more than we hate our enemies.
전쟁을 근절하는 유일한 방법은 적을 미워하는 것보다 자녀를 더 사랑하는 것이다.

죽는 것, 불쌍한 것, 나쁜 이미지를 안고 살아가는 것 중에서 하나를 선택해야 한다면, 우리는 차라리 살아서 나쁜 이미지를 지니는 것을 선택할 것이다.
12. Trust yourself.
Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life.
Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.
자기 자신을 믿어라.
평생 함께하며 행복하게 살아갈 수 있는 자아를 만들어 보라.
내면의 작은 가능성의 불꽃을 성취의 불꽃으로 부채질하여 자신을 최대한 활용하라.
13. We can forgive [the Arabs] for killing our children.
We cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill their children.
We will only have peace with [the Arabs] when they love their children more than they hate us...
우리는 우리 아이들을 죽인 아랍인들을 용서할 수 있다.
우리는 우리에게 아랍인들의 자녀를 죽이라고 강요한 그들을 용서할 수 없다.
아랍인들이 우리를 미워하는 것보다 자기 자녀를 더 사랑할 때에만 우리는 아랍인들과 평화를 누리게 될 것이다...
14. There is no such thing as a Palestinian people...
It is not as if we came and threw them out and took their country.
They didn't exist.
팔레스타인 민족이란 존재하지 않는다.
우리가 와서 그들을 내쫓고 그들의 나라를 빼앗은 것이 아니다.
팔레스타인 민족이란 원래부터 존재하지 않았다.
15. It is not only a matter, I believe, of religious observance and practice.
To me, being Jewish means and has always meant being proud to be part of a people that has maintained its distinct identity for more than 2,000 years, with all the pain and torment that has been inflicted upon it.
나는 이것이 단지 종교적 준수와 실천의 문제만은 아니라고 믿는다.
나에게 유대인이 된다는 것은, 2천년 이상 동안 모든 고통과 괴로움을 겪으면서도 독특한 정체성을 유지해 온 민족의 일원이라는 것을 자랑스럽게 여기는 것을 의미하며, 항상 그렇게 의미해 왔다.
16. My dear, old age is like an airplane flying in a storm.
Once you're in it there's nothing you can do.
You can't stop a plane, you can't stop a storm, you can't stop time.
So you might as well take it easy, with wisdom.
사랑하는 사람이여, 노년은 폭풍 속에 날아가는 비행기와도 같다.
그 안에 들어가면 아무것도 할 수 없다.
비행기를 멈출 수도 없고, 폭풍우를 멎게 할 수도 없으며, 시간을 멈출 수도 없다.
그러므로 지혜롭게 쉬어가는 것이 좋을 것이다.
