※ Benjamin Franklin FRS FRSA FRSE (1706~1790, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Franklin ) ; an American polymath: a writer, scientist, inventor, statesman, diplomat, printer, publisher and political philosopher.
Among the most influential intellectuals of his time, Franklin was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States; a drafter and signer of the Declaration of Independence; and the first postmaster general.
He was appointed deputy postmaster-general for the British colonies in 1753, which enabled him to set up the first national communications network.
An accomplished diplomat, he was widely admired as the first U.S. ambassador to France and was a major figure in the development of positive Franco–American relations. His efforts proved vital in securing French aid for the American Revolution.
From at least as early as 1735 through the following decades, Franklin owned at least seven slaves and ran "for sale" ads for slaves in his newspaper, but by the late 1750s, he had begun arguing against slavery, became an active abolitionist, and promoted the education and integration of African Americans into U.S. society.
His numerous important inventions include the lightning rod, bifocals, glass harmonica and the Franklin stove.
He was the only person to sign the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Paris peace with Britain, and the Constitution.
Foundational in defining the American ethos, Franklin has been called "the most accomplished American of his age and the most influential in inventing the type of society America would become".

1. Temperance(절제)
Eat not to dullness ; drink not to elevation.
배부르도록 먹지 마라. 취하도록 마시지 마라.
2. Silence(침묵)
Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself ; avoid trifling conversation.
자신과 타인에게 이익을 주는 일만 하고, 하찮은 대화는 피하라.
3. Order(질서)
Let all your things have their places ; let each part of your business have its time.
모든 걸 적재적소(適材適所)에 잘 배치하고, 일은 모두 때에 맞게 하라.
4. Resolution(결단)
Resolve to perform what you ought ; perform without fail what you resolve.
해야 할 일은 해결하되, 실수없이 잘 해결하라.
5. Frugality(절약)
Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself ; that is, waste nothing.
자신과 타인에게 이익을 주는 일에 돈을 사용하되, 낭비하지 마라.
6. Industry(근면)
Lose no time ; be always employed in something useful ; cut off all unnecessary actions.
시간을 낭비하지 말고, 유익한 일에 종사하며, 불필요한 행위는 끊어버려라.
7. Sincerity(진실)
Use no hurtful deceit ; think innocently and justly ; speak accordingly.
사람을 속여 해치지 말고, 순수하고 공정(公正)하게 생각하며, 적절한 말을 하라.
8. Justice(정의)
Wrong none by doing injuries ; or omitting the benefits that are your duty.
누구를 다치게 하거나 손해를 입히지 말라.
9. Moderation(중용)
Avoid extremes ; forebear resenting injuries so much as you think deserve.
극단을 피하고, 내게 잘못이 있다고 생각하거든 남의 비난과 비판을 감수(甘受)하라.
10. Cleanliness(청결)
Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, clothes, or habitation.
몸, 옷, 거주지를 깨끗하게 하라.
11. Tranquility(평안)
Be not disturbed at trifles or at accidents common or unavoidable.
시시한 일, 일반적인 일, 어쩔 수 없이 닥친 사고(事故) 등 모든 일에 침착하게 대처하라.
12. Chastity(정숙)
Rarely use venery but for health or offspring, never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another's peace or reputation.
성교는 건강유지와 자녀를 두기 위해서만 하라.
어리석거나 약해지지 말고, 혼자 있을 때는 명상에 들고, 타인들의 평화를 깨지 말라.
13. Humility(겸손)
Imitate Jesus and Socrates.
