※ Dag Hjalmar Agne Carl Hammarskjöld(1905~1961, Dag Hammarskjöld - Wikipedia ) ; 스웨덴의 외교관으로 제2대 유엔 사무총장(Secretary-General of the United Nations)이었으며, 지속적인 평화를 향한 헌신으로 그는 사후에 노벨 평화상을 수상하였다.

그는 유엔 사무총장에 취임한 뒤 국제 분쟁과 제3세계 갈등 해결에 적극 뛰어들었으며, 초기 유엔의 지위를 격상시켜 역대 유엔 사무총장 중 최고라는 평가를 받고 있다.

1961년 9월 DR 콩고 내전(Congo Crisis) 해결을 위해 무장단체 지도부를 만나러 가던 도중 잠비아의 은돌라 근처에서 비행기가 추락하여 16명 전원이 사망하였다.

노벨위원회는 생존자에게만 시상한다는 관례를 깨고, 1961년 헝가리 · 중동 등의 분쟁지역을 중재한 공로로 그에게 노벨평화상을 수여했다(posthumous recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize).

세계의 여러 도시 거리와 광장들이 그의 이름을 따서 명명되었는데, 그 중에 유엔 본부 근처에 있는 맨해튼의 공원은 다그 함마르셸드 플라자(Dag Hammarskjold Plaza)로 불린다.
