I want to convey the true heart of the person published here.

With this mindset, I hope to properly express Eben Alexander's heart.

1. We can only see what our brain’s filter allows through.

2. Physical life is characterized by defensiveness, whereas spiritual life is just the opposite.

※ Archimedes of Syracuse (BC 285?~BC 212?, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archimedes ) ; 고대 그리스의 철학자, 수학자, 물리학자, 공학자, 천문학자(Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, astronomer, and inventor)이며, 고대의 대표적인 과학자, 수학자로 손꼽히고 있다.

그는 물리학 분야에서 정역학(靜力學, 유체정역학 流體靜力學)을 연구했으며, 지레의 원리(center of gravity)를 설명한 것으로 잘 알려져 있다. 또한 그는 Archimedes 나선(spiral that now bears his name)양수기, 해상에 있는 배를 공격하기 위한 거울 등의 기계를 제작하기도 하였다.

수학과 관련한 아르키메데스의 업적으로는 십진법의 도입, 포물선으로 둘러싸인 도형의 넓이 계산(Quadrature of the Parabola), 원주율(圓周率, Measurement of a Circle)의 계산과 같은 것들이 있다.

그는 목욕하다가 금관을 욕조에 넣어서 차오르는 물의 양을 비교하면 금관에 은이 섞였는지 확인할 수 있을 것이라고 생각하였다.

이것을 깨닫게 된 아르키메데스는 너무 기뻐서 옷을 입는 것도 잊은 채 목욕탕에서 뛰어나와 ‘유레카(Eureka)!’라고 외쳤다고 한다. 이 이야기는 가장 널리 알려진 아르키메데스의 일화이다. 이러한 부력(浮力)의 원리(law of buoyancy)를 ‘아르키메데스의 원리’ 라고 부른다.

역사상 최초로 원주율(Measurement of a Circle)의 값을 소수점 둘째 자리(3.140845~)까지 정확히 구하였다.

아르키메데스는 로마군이 침입하자 거대한 반사경으로 태양광선을 반사해 로마 군함을 불태웠으며, 무거운 돌을 날리는 기구를 만들어 로마군을 공격하였다.

그러나 워낙 강력한 로마군에 그의 조국 시라쿠사는 함락되었으며, 로마군이 쳐들어왔을 때, 그는 모래 위에 원을 그리며 연구를 하고 있었다.

로마 병사가 그에게 다가가자 호통을 치며 “내 원을 밟지 마!(Don‘t disturb my circles!)”라고 소리쳤다. 로마 병사는 그를 단칼에 죽여 버렸고, 이 사실을 알게 된 로마군의 대장 마르켈루스는 아르키메데스의 죽음을 슬퍼하여 그의 소원대로 묘비에 원뿔, 구, 원기둥이 꼭 맞게 들어 있는 그림을 새겨 주었다.
