간호는 의약품의 투여(投與) 및 약을 바르고 반창고를 붙이고 붕대를 감는 등등 더 많은 것을 의미하지만, 아직은 제한적인 의미로 사용되고 있다.

나아가서 간호는 신선한 공기, 햇빛, 따뜻함, 청결함, 조용함, 그리고 환자의 에너지 소모를 줄이면서 식이요법의 적절한 선택 및 관리하는 기능까지도 의미한다.
