※ Kurt Vonnegut (1922~2007, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Vonnegut ) ; an American author known for his satirical and darkly humorous novels.
He was interned in Dresden, where he survived the Allied bombing of the city in a meat locker of the slaughterhouse where he was imprisoned.
Vonnegut's breakthrough was his commercially and critically successful sixth novel, Slaughterhouse-Five (1969).
Its anti-war sentiment resonated with its readers amid the Vietnam War, and its reviews were generally positive.
It rose to the top of The New York Times Best Seller list and made Vonnegut famous.

What did people truly want to say to the world?
I want to convey the true heart of the person published here.
With this mindset, I hope to properly express Kurt Vonnegut's heart.
1. Those years weren’t lost. They simply weren’t the way I’d planned them.
세월은 잃지 않았지만, 내가 계획했던 세월과는 전혀 달랐다.
2. People aren’t supposed to look back.
I’m certainly not going to do it anymore.
지나간 일들에 끄달리지 마라.
나는 더 이상 과거에 발목잡히지 않을 것이다.
3. The happiest life consists of ignorance, before you learn how to grieve or rejoice.
인생의 슬픔과 기쁨을 실감하기 전의 무지(無知)로 구성된 삶이 인생에서 가장 행복한 때인 것 같더라.
4. Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things.
언젠가는 회상(回想)하며 그것이 큰 일임을 깨달을 것이므로 인생의 작은 일들을 즐겨라.
5. To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. So do it.
잘하든 못하든 예술을 실천하는 행위는 영혼을 성장시키는 방법이다. 취향껏 예술가가 되세요.
6. It is hard to adapt to chaos, but it can be done.
I am living proof of that. It can be done.
혼란에 적응하기가 어렵기는 하지만 충분히 적응할 수 있다.
나는 혼란 속에서도 잘 적응한 살아있는 증거이다. 누구든 할 수 있다.
7. I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over.
Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.
나는 건너가지 않고 최대한 가장자리에 가까이 서고 싶다.
가장자리에는 중앙에서 볼 수 없는 모든 종류의 것들이 보인다.
8. Laughter and tears are both responses to frustration and exhaustion.
I myself prefer to laugh, since there is less cleaning up to do afterward.
웃음과 눈물은 좌절과 피로에 대한 반응이다.
울기보다 나중에 청소할 일이 별로 없는 웃기를 나 역시도 더 좋아한다.
9. Enjoy your body, use it every way you can.
Don’t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own.
할 수 있는 모든 방법으로 자신의 몸을 활용하고 즐겨라.
다른 사람들이 어떻게 생각하는지에 대해서는 두려워하지 마라.
몸은 자기가 연주할 수 있는 최고의 악기이다.
10. Music is, to me, proof of the existence of God.
It is so extraordinarily full of magic, and in tough times of my life I can listen to music and it makes such a difference.
나에게 음악이란 신의 존재를 증명하는 것이다.
음악은 마법으로 가득 차 있어서 내 인생의 힘든 시기에 나는 음악을 들을 수 있었고, 음악을 듣고 안 듣고는 엄청난 차이가 난다.
