※ Vincent Willem van Gogh(1853~1890, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_van_Gogh ) ; 19세기 네덜란드의 후기 인상파(Post-Impressionist) 화가이다. Gogh는 그의 작품 전부(900여 점의 그림들과 1100여 점의 습작들)를 자살을 감행하기 전 10년 동안에 만들어냈다.

그는 사후(死後)에 비로소 알려졌으며, 흔히 탈인상주의 화가로 분류되고 또한 인상파(印象派 - 자연이 작가에게 주는 순간적인 인상을 작품에 표현하려는 미술의 한 기법), 야수파(野獸派, fauvisme - 강렬한 원색과 거친 형태를 특징으로 하는 미술사조), 초기 추상화(抽象畵 - 필요한 부분, 중요한 부분을 통합하여 하나로 구성하는 그림), 표현주의(表現主義 - 내면에 잠재된 강렬한 표현 욕구를 원색의 화면으로 표현한 미술)에 미친 영향이 크다.

Gogh는 자살로 생을 마쳤다고 알려졌으나, 정말 자살했는지에 대해서는 현재까지도 전문가들 사이에서 의견이 분분하다.
