1. Parents need to learn to respond to their children as they do to guests.

부모는 손님을 대하듯이 자녀에게 대응하는 법을 배워야 한다.

2. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.

우리가 사람들을 제대로 대우(待遇)해 준다면, 그들이 능력 있는 사람이 되도록 우리가 도와주는 셈이 된다.

4) Children need to learn to choose, but within the safety of limits.

아이들은 선택하는 법을 배워야 하지만, 잘 지정된 범위 내에서 안정감을 유지해야 한다.

5) Refrain from using words that you would not want the child to repeat.

자녀가 반복하지 않기를 원하는 단어는 사용하지 마라.

6) Truth for its own sake can be a deadly weapon in family relations.

Truth without compassion can destroy love.

Some parents try too hard to prove exactly how, where and why they have been right.

This approach will bring bitterness and disappointment.

When attitudes are hostile, facts are unconvincing.

자기 자신만을 위한 진실은 가족 관계에서 치명적인 무기가 될 수 있다.
