1. Indeed, photography is revealing.
It seems self evident to me, that people's reactions to ‘The Earth Above’ are further proof of it.

I need a framework to my life, with values I hold dear.

9. Technically speaking, photography is not too terribly difficult.
The difficulty lies in having ideas and following them through.
You need a sense of purpose to carry out your projects.
You need a firm resolve, hard work, earnestness in order to develop something worthy of interest over the years.

11. Why does one become a photographer?
Initially, I think everone has the same motivation : the desire to travel, to excape from everyday routine.
With time, you realise that you learn just as much by looking around you...

처음에는 누구나 같은 동기를 가지고 있다고 생각된다.
여행에 대한 욕구, 일상에서 벗어나고 싶은 욕구 등이다.
시간이 지나면서 주변을 둘러보는 것만큼이나 많은 것을 배운다는 것을 깨닫게 된다.

How does one become a photographer?
You need to have "an eye", and I don't think itcan be learnt.
Going to a specialised school is therefore not imperative, but it is a good thing : more important than learning about technique, need to mature, to acquire knowledge and culture.
At least, this is the way I feel.
어떻게 해야 사진작가가 될 수 있는가?
"사진작가로서의 눈"이 필요한데, 나는 그것이 배울 수 있는 것이라고 생각하지는 않는다.
따라서 사진 전문학교에 가는 것이 필수는 아니지만 필요는 하다.
기술을 배우는 것보다 더 중요한 것은 성숙해야 하며, 지식과 문화를 습득해야 한다.
적어도 이것이 내가 사진에 대해 느끼는 방식이다.

We must all find our waym and follow it.
Photography requires hard work, seriousness and solid culture.
You also need extensive knowledge of your subject.
A photographer must also have sound general and artistic knowledge ; he must be familiar with the work of photographers before him, be a regular visitor to museums, etc...
우리 모두는 우리의 길을 찾고 따라야 한다.
사진 촬영에는 근면, 진지함, 건실한 문화가 필요하다.
사진 주제에 대한 광범위한 지식이 필요하다.
사진작가에게는 또한 건전한 일반 상식 및 예술적 지식이 있어야 한다.
자기보다 앞서 있는 사진작가들의 작품들에 익숙해야 하고, 박물관을 정기적으로 방문하는 등의 일을 해야 한다.

30세 때 케냐의 마사이 마라 국립공원에 거주하기 위해 아내와 떠났으며, 마사이 부족 내에서 3년간 생활하면서 사자의 생태에 대해 관찰하고 사진을 많이 찍었다.

열기구에서 아름다운 풍경들을 보게 되면서 사진에 대한 열정을 가지게 되었고 사진의 파워를 알게 되었다. 이후에는 전 세계를 다니면서 여러 가지 주제의 사진을 촬영했다.

그는 헬리콥터와 열기구를 이용한 풍경 사진책을 60권 이상 발간했다. 그의 사진은 내셔널 지오그래픽 잡지에 수시로 실린다.

지금은 유네스코의 지원을 받아 전 세계를 여행하면서 다음 세대에게 남기기 위한 사진들을 담아내고 있다. 그는 1991년 프랑스 파리에 항공사진을 전문으로 하는 사진도서관을 설립했다.
