※ Koizumi Yakumo(Patrick Lafcadio Hearn, 1850~1904, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lafcadio_Hearn ) ; 19세기 말~20세기 초 일본의 문화와 문학을 서양에 소개한 아일랜드의 작가, 번역가, 교사(an Irish writer, translator, and teacher who introduced the culture and literature of Japan to the West)이다.

그는 1850년 당시 영국의 보호령이던 이오니아 제도 연합주의 레프카다에서 아일랜드계와 그리스계의 혼혈인으로 태어났다.

2살적에 한쪽 눈을 실명하였으며, 1869년에는 미국에서 잠시 기자로 활동하였다. 그러다가 1890년에 일본의 시마네현에 있는 학교에서 교사 생활을 하면서 일본에 정착하였다.

이후에는 일본의 유서깊은 사무라이 가문인 고이즈미 가의 여성과 결혼하고 일본으로 귀화하면서, 처가의 성인 '고이즈미'(小泉)를 성씨로 선택하여 '小泉八雲'라는 이름을 사용했다.

일본에 대한 그의 글은 당시 서구 세계에 아직 익숙하지 않았던 문화에 대한 더 큰 통찰력을 서구 세계에 제공했다(His writings about Japan offered in the Western world greater insight into a culture that was still unfamiliar to it at the time).
