She is known for playing chaperone Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games film series (2012–2015) and an ICCA commentator in the Pitch Perfect film series (2012–2017).
She made her directorial film debut with Pitch Perfect 2 (2015), whose $69 million opening-weekend gross set a record for a first-time director.
Banks founded the film and television production company Brownstone Productions in 2002 with her husband, Max Handelman.
Banks began hosting the ABC revival of the game show Press Your Luck in 2019.

In this business, if you are an ambitious person, you don't wait for people to hand you opportunities.
You have to make a way for yourself.

8. As a producer, I really get to tell stories that I care about in a way that I want to.
I get to shape them. I get to choose the collaborators.
That's really gratifying as a storyteller.

I really do believe you can't be what you can't see, and representation matters.
So, for me, it's the idea of putting women in media in ways that present them as having power, being heard, being true to themselves, and done from the perspective of women.

I'm an actor by training, which means that I study human beings and human behavior.
That's what I try to do and what I love to do.

11. I think we're in a really interesting moment for women globally just in terms of, like, historically, I think we're in an interesting moment for women.
Because, it's important to remember, there have always been funny, funny women.

I just think the percentage of women in positions of power in all aspects of our culture is improving and women are standing up and demanding to be heard.

12. Being a creative person is a really personal process so there is no one-size-fits-all advice, that's kind of the first thing I'd say.
Because everybody's goals are different. Everybody's talents are different.
Some women that I'm talking to want to create a television show.
Some women want to be a director.
They want to use comedy in different ways, and I find that really fascinating.
The main thing I would say is, start!
Just do it. Keep going.
When people come at you with the negativity and the nos, you've got to ignore it. Push through.
창의적인 사람이 된다는 건 정말 개인적인 과정이기 때문에 만능 해결책 같은 건 없다는 게 내가 가장 먼저 말씀드리고 싶은 점이다.
왜냐하면 모든 사람의 목표도 다르고, 재능도 다르니까~
내가 이야기를 나누는 어떤 여성분들은 TV 프로그램을 만들고 싶어 한다.
어떤 여성분들은 감독이 되고 싶어 한다.
또 어떤 분들은 코미디를 다양한 방식으로 활용하고 싶어 하는데, 나는 그런 모습이 정말 흥미롭다고 생각한다.
내가 가장 강조하고 싶은 건, 일단 시작하라는 것이다!
그냥 진행하라. 계속 나아가라.
사람들이 부정적인 말을 하거나 안 된다고 해도 무시하고 앞으로 나아가라.
