What did people truly want to say to the world?
I want to convey the true heart of the person published here.
With this mindset, I hope to properly express Dave Pelzer's heart.

1. The only way to keep your head above water is to convince yourself you are going to make it.

물에 빠지지 않고 살아남는 유일한 방법은 스스로에게 해낼 수 있다고 확신시키는 것이다.

2. Whatever you do for the sole purpose of having others admire you, your efforts will most likely be in vain.

남들에게 잘 보이기 위해 하는 일은, 그 노력의 대부분이 헛수고일 가능성이 크다.

3. It is important for people to know that no matter what lies in their past, they can overcome the dark side and press on the a brighter world.

과거에 어떤 아픔이 있었더라도 어둠을 극복하고 더 밝은 세상을 향해 나아갈 수 있다고 생각하는 것이 중요하다.

4. To help yourself, you must be yourself.

Be the best that you can be.

When you make a mistake, learn from it, pick yourself up and move on.

스스로를 돕기 위해서는 무엇보다 먼저 자신을 있는 그대로 받아들여야 한다.

최선을 다하라.

실수를 했을 때는 그로부터 배우고, 다시 일어서서 앞으로 나아가라.

5. If it all ends now, I have lived, I have learned, and I have been loved.

The greatest lesson is the gift of life, and no matter what, tomorrow is always another day.

설령 모든 것이 지금 끝난다 해도, 나는 살아왔고, 배웠으며, 사랑받았다.

가장 큰 교훈은 인생이라는 선물이며, 무슨 일이 있어도 내일은 항상 또 다른 날이다.

6. Build on past successes, be grateful for what you do have, and know that this, too, shall pass.

It’s only for the now.

Whatever we’re facing, it’s not forever.

과거의 성공을 발판 삼아, 가진 것에 감사하며, 이 또한 지나갈 것임을 기억하라.

지금은 단지 지금일 뿐이다.

7. You have to understand that in a person’s life there are a few precious moments in which decisions, choices that you make now, will affect you for the rest of your life.

8. The first two ultimate rules of being a foster child that I had learned while at Aunt Mary’s were never to become too attached to anyone and never to take someone’s home for granted.

메리 이모네 집에서 어린 시절을 보내면서 내가 배운 두 가지 가장 중요한 위탁 아동의 규칙은, 누구에게도 너무 정을 주지 않는 것 및 누군가의 집을 당연하게 여기지 않는 것이었다.

9. If it doesn’t do you any good, dump it.

Take some action, push that lever, flush it away, and don’t look back.

Take small steps everyday of your life, and start taking control of what you say when you talk to yourself.

행동으로 옮겨라. 흘려보내고, 뒤돌아보지 마라.

매일 작은 발걸음을 내딛고, 스스로에게 하는 말을 컨트롤하기 시작하라.

10. In life you are going to make mistakes, you’re going to fall down, but it’s the getting up that counts.

Just like in baseball: you’ll get a few hits, but most likely, you’ll strike out more than you’ll get on base. But don’t quit.

Find your focus, relax, take a deep breath and give it a good swing.

살아가면서 실수도 하고 넘어지기도 한다.

하지만 중요한 건 다시 일어나는 것이다.
