What did people truly want to say to the world?
I want to convey the true heart of the person published here.
With this mindset, I hope to properly express Dan Gable's heart.
1. Once you've wrestled, everything in life is easy.
레슬링을 한번 해 보면 인생의 모든 것이 쉬워진다.
2. Greatness in the mat is achieved through training that make you push to survive.
매트 위에서의 위대함은 생존을 위해 끊임없이 몰아붙이는 훈련을 통해 얻어진다.
3. We, as a wrestling community, better remember it is more than one individual that makes a winner.
레슬링계 구성원으로서 우리는 승자를 만드는 것은 한 개인의 능력만이 아니라는 사실을 기억해야 한다.
4. Gold medals aren't really made of gold.
They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
금메달은 사실 금으로 만들어진 게 아니다.
'땀', '투지', 내면에서 우러나오는 '배짱'이라는 합금으로 만들어진 것이다.
5. My advice to young wrestlers is that your surroundings really make a difference.
You want to put yourself in good, positive surroundings.
젊은 레슬링 선수들에게 내가 해주고 싶은 조언은 주변 환경이 정말 중요하다는 것이다.
긍정적인 환경에 자신을 두어야 한다.
6. There's always ways of motivating yourself to higher levels.
Write about it, dream about it.
But after that, turn it into action. Don't just dream.
더 높은 수준으로 나아가도록 스스로를 동기 부여하는 방법은 언제나 있다.
그에 대해 글을 쓰고, 꿈을 꾸어라.
하지만 그 후에는 행동으로 옮겨라. 꿈만 꾸고 있지는 마라.
7. The 1st period is won by the best technician.
The 2nd period is won by the kid in the best shape.
The 3rd period is won by the kid with the biggest heart.
1라운드는 최고의 기술을 가진 선수가 이긴다.
2라운드는 체력이 좋은 선수가 이긴다.
3라운드는 악바리 근성을 지닌 선수가 이긴다.
8. I’m a big believer in starting with high standards and raising them.
We make progress only when we push ourselves to the highest level.
If we don’t progress, we backslide into bad habits, laziness and poor attitude.
나는 높은 기준을 세우고 그 기준을 높여 가는 것을 정말로 중요하게 생각한다.
우리는 스스로를 최고 수준으로 끌어올릴 때에만 발전할 수 있다.
발전하지 못하면 나쁜 습관, 게으름, 부정적인 태도로 퇴보하게 된다.
9. There is no mat space for malcontents or dissenters.
One must neither celebrate insanely when he wins, nor sulk when he loses.
He accepts victory professionally, humbly; he hates defeat, but makes no poor display of it.
불만을 품거나 반대하는 사람을 위한 매트 위의 자리는 없다.
승리했다고 해서 미친 듯이 환호해서도 안 되고, 졌다고 해서 침울하게 있어서도 안 된다.
승리는 프로답고 겸손하게 받아들여야 하고, 패배는 싫지만 패배감을 비겁하게 드러내서는 안 된다.
10. A clean, hard-fought wrestling match is the most honest of athletic contests.
There is no technological interventions, no teammates to blame, no panel of judges to bias the score.
In wrestling, you compete or you quit.
No alibis. I like that.
치열하고 정정당당한 레슬링 경기는 가장 정직한 운동 경기이다.
기술적인 개입도 없고, 비난할 팀원도 없으며, 점수를 조작하는 심판진도 없다.
레슬링에서는 경쟁하거나 포기하거나 둘 중 하나이다.
변명할 여지가 없다. 나는 이런 점이 좋다.
