환자는 가상의 위험이나 치욕에서 벗어나기 위해, 또는 높은 곳에서 내려오는 신비한 명령에 복종하기 위해 자살한다.
9. Melancholy suicide - This is connected with a general state of extreme depression and exaggerated sadness, causing the patient no longer to realize sanely the bonds which connect him with people and things about him.
Pleasures no longer attract.
우울한 자살은 극단적인 우울증과 과장된 슬픔의 일반적인 상태와 관련이 있으며, 환자는 더 이상 자기를 사람 및 사물과 연결시키는 유대감을 제정신으로 깨닫지 못하게 된다.

Cause all social life to vanish, and moral life would vanish at the same time, having no object to cling to.
인간은 단지 사회에 살고 있기 때문에 도덕적 존재일 뿐이며, 도덕은 집단과의 결속에 있고 그 결속에 따라 변하기 때문이다.
모든 사회생활이 사라지게 되면 도덕적 삶도 동시에 사라지고, 집착할 대상이 없게 될 것이다.
