What did people truly want to say to the world?
I want to convey the true heart of the person published here.
With this mindset, I hope to properly express John Luther Adams's heart.
1. Where the eye divides, the ear connects.
눈이 갈라지는 곳에서 귀가 연결된다.
2. I’ve come to believe that, fundamentally, art matters more than politics.
근본적으로 예술이 정치보다 더 중요하다는 것을 나는 믿게 되었다.
3. My hope is that the music creates a strange, beautiful, overwhelming - sometimes even frightening - landscape, and invites you to get lost in it.
음악은 낯설고 아름다우며, 압도적이면서도 때로는 두렵기도 한 풍경을 만들어서 당신을 그 속으로 빠져들게 하는 것이 내 소망이다.
4. Life on this earth first emerged from the sea.
As the polar ice melts and sea level rises, we humans find ourselves facing the prospect that once again we may quite literally become ocean.
이 땅의 생명은 처음 바다에서 나왔다.
극지방의 얼음이 녹고 해수면이 상승함에 따라 우리 인간은 다시 한번 말 그대로 바다속 생명이 될 수 있다는 전망에 직면하게 된다.
5. As a composer, I believe that music has the power to inspire a renewal of human consciousness, culture, and politics.
And yet I refuse to make political art.
More often than not political art fails as politics, and all too often it fails as art.
To reach its fullest power, to be most moving and most fully useful to us, art must be itself.
작곡가로서 나는 음악이 인간의 의식, 문화, 정치를 새롭게 하는 힘이 있다고 믿는다.
그럼에도 불구하고 나는 정치 예술을 만드는 것을 거부한다.
정치 예술은 정치로서 실패하는 경우가 많고, 예술로서 실패하는 경우도 너무 많다.
가장 큰 힘을 발휘하고, 정말 감동적이며 아주 유용하게 쓰이려면, 예술은 예술 그 자체여야 한다.
