What did people truly want to say to the world?

I want to convey the true heart of the person published here.

With this mindset, I hope to properly express George Monbiot's heart.

1. 'Environment’ is a term that creates no pictures in the mind, which is why I have begun to use ‘natural world’ or ‘living planet’ instead.

'환경'이라는 용어는 머릿속에 어떤 그림도 그려지지 않는다.

그래서 나는 '환경' 대신에 '자연 세계'나 '살아있는 지구' 라는 용어를 사용하기 시작했다.

2. Even when nuclear power plants go horribly wrong, they do less damage to the planet and its people than coal-burning stations operating normally.

원자력 발전소가 끔찍한 사고를 당하더라도, 정상적으로 가동되는 석탄 화력 발전소보다 지구와 인류에게 미치는 피해가 적다.

3. When you warn people about the dangers of climate change, they call you a saint.

When you explain what needs to be done to stop it, they call you a communist.

4. Development which has no regard for whom or what it harms is not development.

It is the opposite of progress, damaging the Earth’s capacity to support us and the rest of its living systems.

6. The sheep has caused more extensive environmental damage in this country than all the building that has ever taken place here.

7. Sheep farming in this country is a slow-burning ecological disaster, which has done more damage to the living systems of this country than either climate change or industrial pollution.

Yet scarcely anyone seems to have noticed.

9. Rewilding, unlike conservation, has no fixed objective: it is driven not by human management but by natural processes.

There is no point at which it can be said to have arrived.

Rewilding of the kind that interests me does not seek to control the natural world, to re-create a particular ecosystem or landscape, but – having brought back some of the missing species – to allow it to find its own way.

자연 보존과는 달리 재 야생화에는 고정된 목표가 없다.

인간의 관리가 아닌 자연적 과정에 의해 주도된다.

10. By rebuilding community, we become proud of our society, proud of our institutions, proud of our nations, proud of ourselves.

By coming together we discover who we are.

We ignite our capacity for empathy and altruism.

Togetherness and belonging allow us to become the heroes of the story.

공동체를 재건함으로써 우리는 사회, 제도, 국가, 우리 자신에 대한 자부심을 갖게 된다.

함께 모이면 우리는 우리가 누구인지 알게 된다.

11. The Italian philosopher Antonio Gramsci used the term ‘cultural hegemony’ to describe the way in which ideas and concepts which benefit a dominant class are universalized.

They become norms, adopted whole and unexamined, which shape our thinking.

Perhaps we suffer from agricultural hegemony: what is deemed to be good for farmers or landowners is deemed, without question or challenge, to be good for everyone.

이러한 사상과 개념은 규범이 되어, 검토 없이 그대로 받아 들여지고 우리의 사고방식을 형성한다.

어쩌면 우리는 농업 헤게모니로 고통 받고 있는지도 모른다.

농부나 지주에게 좋다고 여겨지는 것이 아무런 의심이나 반론 없이 모든 사람에게 좋다고 여겨지는 것이다.
